About 30 km South of St.-Petersburg and 4 km away from Pushkin is lovely, leafy Pavlovsk.
The estate’s history dates back to 1777, when Catherine II (the Great) gave hunting grounds here to her son Paul, who was later to become Emperor Paul I. Scottish architect Charles Cameron designed neoclassical palace and surrounding English-style gardens. This is a place of more natural beauty – in stark contrast to the showy Peterhof and Tsarskoe Selo – perfect to those, who want to breathe some fresh air.
