The Hermitage museum is actually a huge museum complex. It is called The Main Museum Complex and is located in the center of Saint-Petersburg, Russia. The Main Museum Complex consists of 5 buildings. The total area of ​​the halls of the Hermitage is over 233 thousand square meters! The exhibition area is 66.8 thousand square meters. The main building is the Winter palace the former royal winter residence. It was built by order of the Empress Elizabeth by the French architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli in 1754-1762, in the Baroque style.
